Jim McMahon, the President of CPMA, has been an industry consultant since 1975.
He is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC), having qualified for the most
prestigious accreditation available to consultants. Among the criteria for
membership are broad experience in one's field of expertise and a strict adherence
to the professional and ethical standards of the consulting profession. Jim is
one of the few, if not the only, CMCs with a practice focusing on the construction
industry. He earned his B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois and
an MBA from Northwestern University.
In comparison with other consulting companies CPMA is relatively small; this is by
design. Staying small allows Jim to more effectively capitalize on his
experience in the conduct of building materials marketing consulting projects.
Further, it allows him to stay involved in all aspects of the client interaction,
interviewing, report development, and the presentation of the study's conclusions
and recommendations. Each client's dollar is invested in this expertise and not
in that of inexperienced consultants.
Additionally, Jim is currently Treasurer of the Construction Marketing Research
Council (CMRC), a group of marketing research professionals interested in furthering
the use of research in the industry. Companies represented in the CMRC include,
among others, Sto Corporation, Owens Corning, Vulcan Materials, U.S. Gypsum,
Masco, McGraw-Hill, Masonite,
and about ten other companies. Jim also speaks regularly at industry and
trade association meetings.
